The Wisconsin Department of Justice has finally released the requirements for information on a certificate. This creates certain logistic problems for modifying existing certificates. By sending out a mass request for addresses and mailing a certificate could set me up to give a certificate to someone that has not attended a class, but is on my mailing list. By requiring you to send me your certificate would certainly be safest; however, it will be the most time consuming. Time is running out and we all want to submit our certificates on day one.

There is a clause set for people that already obtained training. We can modify or replace your existing document. We can also attach a document supporting the fact that your training conforms to the standards set by the DOJ. I think that this will be the most effective solution to the problem. I spoke at length yesterday with an employee at the DOJ. That individual thought this should be sufficient, but also expressed that they didn't make the rules. The issue is that you will be filling in blanks on the document; this shouldn't be a problem as the date is on the original certificate.

You will need to print it and fill in the blanks.  If you have taken the Wisconsin CCW Class, Intermediate Pistol Skills, Defensive Pistol Skills, or Massad Ayoob Group Course, your training will be sufficient. Your certificate from the class will need to be copied and sent along with this document. The certificate bears my signature and the attachment document will not have my signature. (If you have an NRA course certificate, you will be able to just send it without the supplemental document.)

If you have a Utah or Florida CCW permit, just copy the permit and send it off with the DOJ application and affirmation form available on 11/1/11 at the DOJ web site.

If you feel more comfortable getting a replacement certificate, please either send me your certificate or scan and email your certificate. I will mail your new certificate back to you. Please understand that I will be back in state on 11/2/11 and I will not have the ability to make replacement certificates until then.
